Strengthening the Senegalese Education System
Purpose
The general objectives of SeneTrust are to build a Fund which will:
- Support research;
- Fund pedagogy;
- Fund Academic management;
- and Improve the social life of the students.
Problem
Through Programs for Africa and Freedom Endowment, Phelps Stokes has partnered with The Foundation of the University Cheikh Anta Diop University (FUCAD), which is located in Senegal’s capitol, Dakar. This University has enrolled thousands of students and made information and education available to many Senegalese and West African students. However, this University is in great need of funding for research and for materials necessary for developing a library, curriculum, and much more. SeneTrust is the partnership between Phelps Stokes and FUCAD which will focus on finding funds and support from the Senegalese Diaspora in the US. Their support will cultivate the spirit of solidarity within the university community and its relations with the rest of Academia.
process
SeneTrust will fund and enhance research, pedagogy, administration, and social life at UCAD by:
- Providing funding for research projects;
- Supervising and ensuring the allocation of fellowships, research grants and grants for mobility;
- Supporting and improving women leadership;
- Enhancing the handicap accessibility;
- Ensuring the construction, rehabilitation, and purchase of equipment for lecture halls, classrooms, and laboratories;
- Providing educational materials and scientific equipment;
- and Strengthening the Common Service Documentation for the provision of books and subscriptions to databases.

Those who would participate in this program are the students, faculty, and administration of the University of Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD).
